Member Ride – Corona

March 28 @ 8:15 am - 3:30 pm

Skill Level: Intermediate or Advanced.

Ride Description: We’ll ride up the groomed FS 149 for a few miles to the site of the Ranch Creek Wye on the “Hill Route” of the Moffat Road, then we’ll explore all of the single track trails, treed hills, and meadows up near the Riflenotch Trestle and beyond. If conditions permit, we’ll go to the top of Rollins Pass where the townsite of Corona once was, to Pumphouse Lake and Corona Lake, and to several other places. Recommend downloading the free COTREX app if you don’t have another winter trails app that shows the Corona riding area.

Location: Lakota Snowmobile Parking Lot (many people call this the Corona Lot). Click the map below for map/directions. (Be sure to turn right onto Lakota Trail off of Rt. 40; summer directions won’t work.)

  • Parking area may or may not be plowed, but it usually is or is well packed down.
  • Don’t park in the turnaround, but rather turn around there, head back down the road only as far as necessary to find a spot, and park on the right side.

Breakfast: None planned (most places in Winter Park and Fraser don’t open until 8:00a).

Pre-Ride Gear Check & Meeting: 8:15a, near Dean’s burgundy Jeep Grand Cherokee w/gray trailer. (Be unloaded, geared up, and ready to ride at this time.)

Ride Start Time: 8:30a.

Ride End Time: 3:30p, or earlier if group wants.

Must Haves: Mntn sled, Beacon w/good batts, Probe, Shovel, Charged cell phone, FRS or GMRS radio set to channel 18, privacy code 21.

Lunch Plan: Carry whatever you need to stay fueled and hydrated for the day; we won’t return to the parking lot until the end of our ride.
