Member Ride – Vail Pass – Trail-Only

March 7 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Skill Level: All levels who want to ride trail-only.

Ride Description: This ride is for our members who enjoy sticking to the trails; we’ll ride all of the great groomed trails at Vail Pass, including up and over Shrine Pass, next to “Machine Gun Ridge. We’ll also visit the Camp Hale area where the 10th Mountain Division trained during WWII (and less known, where the CIA trained Tibetan resistance fighters 1958-1964). Recommend downloading the free COTREX app if you don’t have another winter trails app that shows Vail Pass Winter Recreation Area trails; you can also click VPWRA, where you can download a PDF and/or an Avenza Map for this area.

Location: Vail Pass – Snowmobile Parking Area. See the map below for map/directions.

  • Parking lot may or may not be plowed, but it usually is or is well packed down.

Parking Fee: There’s a $10 parking fee at this location, or you can buy an annual pass for it. Bring cash since their credit card machine sometimes fails.

Breakfast: None planned (though given I-70 traffic, you probably want to head up early and grab breakfast in Silverthorne or Frisco).

Pre-Ride Gear Check & Meeting: 9:00a, near Jay’s Blue BMW X5 w/black side-by-side Triton trailer. (Be unloaded, geared up, and ready to ride at this time.)

Ride Start Time: 9:15a.

Ride End Time: 4:00p, or earlier if group wants.

Must Haves: Shovel, Charged cell phone, FRS or GMRS radio set to channel 18, privacy code 21.

Lunch Plan: We’ll stop at Nova Guides near Camp Hale for lunch…bring money.
